Honda’s Giacomo Redondi made his mark at the second round of the Italian Enduro Championship by claiming the overall victory in the two-day event.

Individual day wins went to Sherco’s Matt Phillips and Beta’s Alex Salvini.

“I enjoyed Saturday, because it is positive to be second behind world champion Phillips,” told Redondi. “Now I keep my head down and from tomorrow I will have to think of Finland, hoping to take a beautiful revenge in the new EnduroGP class”.

With the series moving to Sicily for round two, the small Italian island delivered an action-packed weekend of racing.

Up to speed, EnduroGP champion Phillips proved the rider to beat at Saturday’s round three. Winning six of the day’s 12 special tests, the Sherco rider held off Redondi by 10 seconds to take the win.

Proving he’s no slouch in the traditional enduro terrain, MXGP ex-pat Christophe Charlier (Husqvarna) placed just eight seconds behind Redondi in third.

Making his first appearance in the series, Beta’s Steve Holcombe ended his day one second behind Charlier in fourth with Australian Daniel Sanders (KTM) fifth and Salvini seventh.

Ninth overall, Davide Soreca (Honda) was top of the Juniors.

On day two the running order swapped and changed with Salvini coming to the front to take the win. With three test wins to his credit, he claimed the win boy six seconds.

"We can divide my race into two parts, on day one I made too many mistakes and a couple of falls have affected the outcome of the race,” told Salvini. “Day 2 instead everything went well, I remounted the disadvantage of 10 seconds and managed to win the E2 class and Assoluta. I wanted to thank the whole team for the great work done this weekend."

Finishing again second, Redondi did enough to secure the overall victory for the weekend.

Improving over his previous day’s result, Holcombe was third overall with Sanders in fourth. Phillips completed the top five.

"I arrived here in Sicily with a strong cough and despite everything I have achieved a good result,” said Holcombe. “The race of the Assoluti was a good workout in preparation for the start of the World Championship that will be in Finland in a few days. I am happy about the victory in the Foreigners class and the podium in the Absolute".

Nicolas Pellegrinelli (Husqvarna) was fastest of the Juniors in 10th.

The series continues with round five in Viverone on April 9.
