HM Honda’s Rodrig Thain puts in a winning performance to claim victory on day one of the Enduro World Championship GP of Portugal...

The EWC GP of Portugal in Torres Vedras was a great success for HM Honda Zanardo's Rodrig Thain who enjoyed a double podium by winning on Saturday and finishing third on Sunday for round four of the 2012 Enduro 1 World Championship.

Thain put in a superb performance on Saturday by winning four of the day’s nine special tests to secure a six-second winning victory. On Sunday Thain pushed from the start but wasn't quite as aggressive as Saturday and had to accept third place. Thain certainly gave his best with strong performances in the extreme test, enduro and cross tests on the hard and dry ground.

However, things didn't go so well for teammate Simone Albergoni as he was involved in a bad accident. While racing the special cross test, a number of spectators had come too close to the track markings that surrounded the track and Albergoni crashed into them. He sustained a double fracture to his left elbow, while a spectator also received an injury with a fracture to the shinbone. Fortunately all other persons involved only had bruises and a big fright.

In the Enduro Junior class Swedish rider Karl Svensson finished eleventh and fourteenth, while the team received good results in the Enduro Youth Cup with youngsters Nicolò Bruschi and Andrea Castellana. Bruschi ended with a positive sixth and seventh position while Castellana placed tenth both days.

Rodrig Thain – Enduro 1: “When Meo and Albergoni during retired during day one I knew that I needed to attack and take advantage of the situation. I’m so happy to have finally won a race - it’s been a big relief to win.”
