Gas Gas Pontus Hogberg claims the overall win at round three of the Swedish Enduro Championship in Ostersund…

With the series heading to Ostersund in northern Sweden, the venue marked the only two-day race on this year’s calendar. Continual rainfall in the days leading up to the race ensured that the course would be muddy and very slippery in places as competitors faced four special tests per lap. However, as the weather improved throughout the event, conditions dried considerably.

Kjetil Gundersen 655

Gundersen caught everyone off guard to win day one...

On day one it was Honda’s Kjetil Gundersen that set the pace when he claimed victory by almost 16 seconds. Gas Gas’s Pontus Hogberg was unable to consistently match the pace of Gundersen and was forced to settle for second. Husaberg’s Mikael Persson placed over one-minute behind the leaders to finish third while round one winner Johan Edlund (Husaberg) recovered from numerous mistakes to end his day fourth. Honda’s Jacob Morhed completed the top five.

With weather conditions improving for day two, Hogberg immediately set the pace to lead a much-improved Edlund at the end of the opening lap. Maintaining his advantage throughout the remainder of the day, the Gas Gas rider held on to secure the win. With Edlund finishing as runner up, his teammate, 16-year old, Persson finished just 12 seconds behind to place third. Day one winner Gundersen was fourth while Yamaha mounted Anders Eriksson rounded out the top five.
