Gas Gas have thrown their hat into the ring and unleashed details of their competition models for 2013…

After pushing the brand through some major changes for 2012, the Spanish marquee undergoes smaller but more refined and welcomed updates for 2013.

Firstly the plastics have been changed. The radiator panels are now stronger and fix to the radiator with a bolt like in past years. The rear number panels are also different and fix to the sub-frame with some neat small bolts.

The front mudguard is now stronger underneath with extra webs to make more rigid. The petrol tank is a slight different shape for better fitment. Also some cool plastic frame guards come as standard.

The rear plastic sub-frame has been reinforced and also the access to the air-filter has massively improved needing only one bolt to change the filter. This bolt is the seat bolt, which is now from the top, and not underneath like the 2012 was.

On the electric start models the battery ‘box’ is now part of the seat, which aids in changing the air-filter. Another welcome change is the amount of steering lock. There is 6 degrees more lock. Also a small detail is that the actual steering ‘lock’ is now on the right hand side of the headstock to prevent the throttle cable and clutch hose from snagging.

The factory has now got suspension-tuning experts ‘HRG’ to assist with suspension settings. The front suspension on the standard models is now Marzocchi 45mm with a Sachs rear shock. There are new rear suspension links, which change the rear suspension geometry to help with traction and also lower the seat height.

There is a new front brake hose and is fitted better so that it has better clearance of the front wheel.

The bomb proof 2 stroke engines remain virtually the same apart from some changes to the clutch (better cooling) and a return to the aluminium clutch cover.

The clutch also returns to the AJP master cylinder.
