Producing his best Enduro 2 class performances to date in the EWC, Portugal’s Luis Correia was excluded from the results at the GP of Finland due to running an undersized engine. After finishing fourth overall both days in Heinola, Correia’s Yamaha was randomly selected for an engine measurement.
Officials found the Portuguese rider’s machine to fall under the allowed cubic capacity of 290cc for the Enduro 2 category he was competing in. Although falling under the allowed measurements by an insignificant 0.21cc, his machine was measured at 289.79cc, the Yamaha O.Pons Team were deemed to have breached regulations and Correia was immediately excluded.
The outcome was a disappointing end to what was truly an outstanding race by the enduro newcomer.
