Although already crowned the 2012 Spanish Enduro Champion at the penultimate round of the series, Cervantes continued his winning ways by ending his season on a high with victory at the final round of the season.
Setting the fastest time in the opening special test, the Gas Gas rider quickly opened up a four-second advantage over his closest rival. Continuing to extend his lead as the day progressed, Cervantes claimed a comfortable 35-second margin of victory over Yamaha’s Luis Correia with KTM’s Victor Guerrero completing the top three in the overall classification.
“It’s nice to have won the final race of the year,” confirmed Cervantes, the 2012 Spanish Enduro Champion. “With the sun quite low in the first few special tests it made it quite difficult to see the lines but I was able to set a fast pace and open up a comfortable lead. The race was challenging and the controls were long and spectacular. I really enjoyed both the extreme test and the cross test. With both situated next to each other there was a great crowd of spectators watching, which helped to end the season on a high for me. It’s been a great season and to end it as champion has been perfect.”
In the Enduro 1 category, KTM’s Victor Guerrero secured the final win of the season with Gas Gas’ Goncalo Reis finishing second while Arnau Sola (Yamaha) completed the top three. Husqvarna’s Lorenzo Santolino claimed the Enduro 1 championship.
With Cervantes claiming victory in the overall classification he also topped the Enduro 2 class. Yamaha’s Luis Correia ended his day as runner up with Armand Monleon (KTM) rounding out the top three.
Taking advantage of Husaberg’s Joakim Ljunggren’s absence, Gas Gas mounted Jordi Figueras secured his first win of the season. KTM’s Juan Perez de la Torre placed second with Xacob Agra Carrera (KTM) finishing third.
