Reis Wins Portuguese Opener

Goncalo Reis claims the first victory of the 2012 Portuguese National Enduro Championship in Gois on February 4/5

During the first weekend of February the opening rounds of the 2012 Polisport AJP Portuguese National Enduro Championship kicked off under blue but chilly skies at the Enduro de Gois. With the event also marking the ninth edition of the enduro located three hours north of Lisbon, organisers set out a challenging 48km loop for riders to contend with. After two days of competition incorporating three special tests, Cross, Enduro and Extreme, it was Gas Gas mounted Goncalo Reis that topped the overall classification while also taking victory in Elite 1. Although fastest in the specials, Yamaha’s Luis Oliveria’s two-minute penalty would eventually leave him having to settle for second place. Fabio Pereira (Yamaha) was third.

In Elite 2, Luis Correia (Yamaha) claimed a comfortable 90-second victory over Husqvarna mounted Diogo Ventura with Suzuki’s Mario Patrao following them home in third.

Round two of the championship continues at Torres Vedra, Lisbon on March 11.
