Claiming a double win inside the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak was crowned the 2012 AMA EnduroCross champion. With the eighth and final round of the hotly contested series concluding with a double main event showdown, it was Blazusiak that led home the strong field of riders to secure his fourth consecutive title in style...

During the three qualifying heats, Kawasaki’s Colton Haaker won the opening heat with a last lap pass on KTM’s Mike Brown. Beta’s Cody Webb dominated the second heat as Husqvarna’s Kyle Redmond recovered from numerous mistakes to secure his transfer spot to the main event with second place. After setting the fastest time of the night during the Hot Laps session, Blazusiak easily won the third and final heat race to transfer directly through to the main events; Kawasaki’s Justin Soule followed him home in second.

Taylor Robert (Kawasaki) won the first LCQ over Cory Graffunder (Husqvarna) and Jamie Lanza to earn spots in the main. Geoff Aaron (Honda) won the second LCQ over his teammate Kevin Rookstool and Beta’s Max Gerston to take the last spots in the main event.

Wasting little time in hitting the front of the field, Blazusiak grabbed the holeshot of Main Event 1 but was quickly followed by both Brown and Webb. With Webb working his way past Brown, the two leaders began to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Swapping positions throughout the main event, neither rider was able to gain an advantage over the other. However, on lap six it was Webb that was first to crack under the pressure. His crash allowed Blazusiak through for a safe win. With Webb remounting to finish in second, Brown completed the top three. Aaron had a strong ride to move from ninth on lap one all the way to fourth. Soule rounded out the top five.

Carrying on from where they left off, both Blazusiak and Webb resumed their fight for victory in Main Event 2. When Blazusiak made a mistake in the rock garden it allowed Webb to close the gap. Sensing an opportunity to pass, the Beta rider made a run for it through the treacherous rock section only to crash hard. The mistake then allowed the KTM rider another clear run to the chequered to pick up the second main event win of the night and with it secure the 2012 AMA EnduroCross Championship.

Webb eventually chased him home for second overall. Husqvarna’s Redmond battled with Aaron for the final podium spot until Redmond finally took the position. Aaron held on for fourth overall with Brown completing the top five.

KTM’s Maria Forsberg was crowned the 2012 AMA Women’s EnduroCross Champion. With the first ever Women’s class championship coming down to the final race it was Forsberg that held a 10-point lead over US Women’s Trials champion Louise Forsley entering the main event. Forsley lead the race on the last lap but got hopelessly stuck in the rocks. The mistake allowed Forsberg to take the win and secure the championship. Forsley recovered for second in the race and championship. Rachel Gutish finished took the final podium position in Vegas. Chantelle Bykerk finished fourth in the race, which was enough to take third in the championship.
