The surgery, which is scheduled for Monday November 26th, is expected to see the Frenchman out of action for almost three months.
That time scale puts his preparation for the EWC GP of Chile on March 16th in real doubt.
The injury came to light on day two at the GP of Finland back in August. In Heinola, the Frenchman began to struggle with feeling in his wrist but carried with the support of a wrist brace to finish in sixth position and secure the world title.
With a couple of weeks to prepare for the final round of the season in France, the 21-year old then bounced back in terrific style to end his Enduro Junior career with a fantastic double victory.
However, numerous tests have revealed the injury will require treatment.
Speaking about the situation, Mathias remarked…
“It’s official, I will have the operation on Monday week. If everything goes to plan it will take three months of recuperation, which means no training or testing during the winter to prepare for 2013 season and the GP of Chile in March.
“It’s disappointing, everything was going so well. I was on cloud nine…”
