With the opening round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship taking place inside the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland, Knight is the latest addition to the already growing line up of riders expected to compete.
Knight, who won the FIM Indoor Enduro World Championship in 2008, is no stranger to success inside a stadium. However, with only a couple of weeks to prepare for the race, it is an event that he sees as an excellent testing opportunity instead. Having spent limited time on his Honda CFR450, the Manxman is keen to develop his bike setup under race conditions in Lodz.
“In 2013 my focus will be on the Enduro World Championship but also the endurocross race at the X-Games. I feel the opening round of the SuperEnduro championship is an opportunity that’s not to be missed in preparing for that race.
“During the last week I’ve started riding the CFR450 and already feel very comfortable on the bike. Although it’s still in standard motocross trim, I’m incredibly impressed by how easy it is to ride, which gives me confidence in taking it to the race in Poland.”
However, with the world’s elite endurocross riders competing in Poland, where does the former world champion see himself fitting in? “I know Taddy Blazusiak will be fast. He’s just won the AMA EnduroCross series in the US and is feeling race sharp. To beat him is a tall order but this is endurocross and anything can happen – mistakes are common. Realistically, I’m just going there to have fun and learn more about my bike.
“However, in the past I’ve always done quite well in endurocross and was rarely off the podium. I know repeating that success it won’t be easy on the 450 but if I can get a good start and put myself in the right position then I should be able to mix things up. I’m feeling fit, healthy and happy again, so I just want to go race.”
