KTM mounted Gonçalo Reis secured victory at the opening round of the Portuguese Enduro Championship in Gondomar…

Against a strong entry of 149 competitors, Reis held off Beta mounted Luis Correia to claim the win in the overall classification while also topping the Elite 1 class.

With bright sunny skies greeting the start of the 2013 season, event organisers laid on a short but tough 40km course that featured a challenging Cross, Enduro and Extreme test to be completed three times.

Getting his day off to a strong start, Reis fought hard with Correia during the opening two laps. Continuing his pace throughout the day, Reis gradually extended his lead from four seconds to take a comfortable 20-second margin of victory over his rival.

Finishing second overall Correia also ended his day with victory in the Elite 2 category. Placing some 36 seconds behind the leading duo, Yamaha’s Luis Oliveira competed the top three in the overall classification.

The series continues with round two in Gois on March 3.
