Coming away from the championship opener with a win to his credit Jonny Walker currently sits second in the series standings. Hoping for more success in Barcelona but against an even tougher line up of competitors than Poland, Jonny gives his thoughts on this weekend’s race…

It’s been nine weeks since the FIM Superenduro World Championship opener in Poland, looking back were you pleased with the way the event went?

Jonny: “Yes, I’m really happy with how it went. There is always a lot of uncertainty going into a big race like that, but it was a very positive start to the season for me. That was the main thing for me – I wasn’t focused on a specific result, I just wanted to have a good ride and get on the podium all being well. I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing indoors in Barcelona now.”

You were the only rider to beat Taddy Blazusiak in Poland. That must have given your confidence a boost?

Jonny: “Winning the night’s second final was great. Taddy’s always a tough, tough rider to beat and things worked out really well for me at the start of the second final. The start was reversed and I managed to get out front quickly, and then didn’t make any mistakes. It definitely gave me a boost, now I just need to take the next step and go for an overall win.”

It’s extremely tight at the top of the championship with just six points separating yourself and Taddy. Do you have a set game plan for Barcelona this weekend?

Jonny: “The plan’s the same as always – to enjoy the event and have a good time. Hopefully a good result will follow. I need to stay focused and not make any mistakes, which isn’t easy, and if I can get a solid result I’ll hopefully stay in the points chase going into the final race in France.”

As well as yourself, Taddy, Knighter, Joakim Ljunggren and the usual Superenduro regulars you’ll be joined by Ivan Cervantes, Cristobal Guerrero and Antoine Meo. How do you think that’ll change things?

Jonny: “Barcelona is definitely going to be a really tough race. Every one of about eight or 10 riders is capable of winning races. I’m sure there’ll be some surprises, and some unexpected results, as anything can happen. It’ll be important to try and stay out of trouble as much as possible, and hope everything works out well…”
