TM Racing’s Eero Remes has taken the outright victory on the opening day of competition of the 2017 EnduroGP World Championship in Finland.Updated: 18.10GMT, March 25
Laying down the law on his home turf, Remes scorched his way to a commanding victory to top the outright time sheets and the Enduro2 category.
In what was also his debut ride in the legendary Lake Paitsi Finnish enduro, the pint sized Finn grabbed control of the race lead pretty much from the word go and then maintained it for the duration of the 15 special test, 400-kilometre long day.
Second overall but storming his way to the provisional Enduro Junior win, fellow Finn, Emil Pohjola (Husqvarna) claimed the runner-up result, albeit some two minutes adrift of Remes.
First of the EnduroGP category, Husqvarna’s Antti Hellsten was third overall ensuring a Finnish 1-2-3 on day one in Finland.
In fact it proved a Finnish white wash with Finland running out the top six overall.
Henric Stigell (Husqvarna) fourth overall and second Enduro2, fifth Marko Tarkkala (Husqvarna) second EnduroGP and sixth Aleksi Jukola (KTM) third EnduroGP.
Sherco’s Matt Phillips was first of the non Scandinavians home in seventh, followed by Pascal Rauchenecker (Husqvarna) eighth, Roni Nikander (KTM) ninth with Steve Holcombe (Beta) completing the top 10.
