Watch the action from day one at the Roof of Africa.
Day one was a busy one with competitors facing the traditional Round the Houses jaunt before heading out into the mountains for the afternoon time trial.
Dry, dusty, hot and fast was the order of the day as riders blasted around the high speed, predominantly asphalt course.
At the top of the standings it was France’s Marc Bourgeois who took the win. In Africa to sample his first proper taste of Hard Enduro, Bourgeois - Yamaha’s EnduroGP team manager, and top notch rider in his own right - is quickly settling into things.
Once out into the mountains proper the top contenders got down to the real business of racing.
Setting out his stall, Graham Jarvis topped the time sheets, but only just.
Yamaha’s Brett Swanepoel was the first South African home in the time trial in second, but with combined scores from Round the Houses and Time Trial he beat Jarvis by four seconds after almost two hours of racing.
Travis Teasdale and Blake Gutzeit were third and fourth with Billy Bolt completing the top five of the time trial.
It wasn’t the best day at the office for Alfredo Gomez, already 10 minutes behind Jarvis he crossed the finish line in 11th, splitting the much-watched duo of Lars Enockl and Andreas Lettenbichler on their pre-production fuel injected two strokes.
