When it was reported last week that Christophe Charlier was replacing Mathias Bellino on the French World Trophy team for the ISDE there was no clarification as to why. Now it’s confirmed that Bellino has broken his shoulder again.
It’s been a tough and testing season for the former world champion. On the eve of the EnduroGP opener in Finland, the Husqvarna rider broke his shoulder and was forced to the injury bench.
He returned to action three rounds later for the GP of Hungary. Gaining speed, he appeared to have hit his stride with a double win in the French championship over Christophe Nambotin two weekends ago.
But as we know now, only days later he fractured his right shoulder blade, which will not only force him out of the ISDE in France but the remainder of the EnduroGP season.
“It’s hard to accept I will be forced to miss the ISDE and sit out the rest of the season,” told Bellino. “I worked hard to come back from my pre-season injury and I was really motivated to keep improving my results in this final part of the season.
“It was just a slow speed crash but I immediately knew there was something wrong with my shoulder. It’s really disappointing that I’ll have to miss the rest of the season due to this injury.”
Husqvarna Motorcycles and the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team wish Mathias all the best for a quick recovery.
“Mathias has been really unfortunate to suffer a second serious injury this season,” said Andreas Hölzl - Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Enduro Team Manager “This time it happened while he was training for the upcoming ISDE and it will keep him out of contention for the rest of this season.
“Injuries might be an inevitable part of top-level racing but as a professional athlete Mathias knows exactly how to work his way out and come back even stronger. We all wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.”
