HRC Honda’s Kevin Benavides’ title hopes for Dakar 2017 took a major blow when he crashed heavily in training in Chile.
As the top performing rookie and best performing Honda rider in 2017, Benavides hopes for a podium or better in 2017 were high.
But now with 17 days to go until Dakar 2017 begins that dream could be over.
Media in Argentina began to rumble rumours regarding Benavides’ accident and yesterday evening, December 14 he posted this on Twitter…
But the severity of the situation became even clearer when a couple of hours later he posted this on Instagram…
#volveremos
Translating, Benavides says he fractured his throttle hand resulting in surgery requiring seven nails.
“My dream disappeared for the Dakar… I have no words to express what I feel,” wrote Benavides.
HRC Honda have yet to give an update on the situation but it looks like one of their top guns is already out.
