The eighth edition of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally, got underway in front of the King Mohammed VI, with the prologue and the first special stage.
Dunes, fast tracks, winding trails and navigation were on the menu and it was Xavier De Soultrait who interpreted the stage at the best, finishing on top of the provisional classification.
Franco Caimi (Yamaha) and Alessandro Botturi (Yamaha) finished respectively second and third, with Gerard Farres (KTM) fourth and Joaquim Rodrigues (Hero Motorcycles), winner of the Prologue, in fifth.
But if the Pro riders topped the time sheet, the beating hearth of the rally is represented by the amateurs and the less experienced riders who took advantage of the support of the coaches Giovanni Sala and Jean Brucy at the start and during the stage, especially in the dunes passages.
At 14:00 the first appointment with the Marc Coma’s school was packed.
