In one of the closest battles ever seen in the British Enduro Championship Husqvarna’s Jamie McCanney claimed victory at The Muntjac Enduro by less than one second over Beta’s Steve Holcombe.

With both riders fighting for their first ever British Enduro overall title the competition was intense. Despite winning only two out of the six special tests, it was an incredible run by McCanney on the penultimate test that gave McCanney him a small advantage that was enough to secure the win.

“I think spectators couldn’t ask for more today. I had such a good fight with Steve so to get the win by one second was great,” said McCanney.

“For me this win is sums up a great season with the Enduro Junior World Championship title and the win in Enduro 1 at the ISDE. I’d like to congratulate Steve and everyone else involved in the 2015 British Enduro Championship for a great season. I’m already looking forward to next year.”

Posting the fastest time in four tests during the day Steve Holcombe couldn’t keep his lead going. The Beta rider did everything possible but finished just nine tenths of a second behind McCanney as the runner-up.

“I did all I could. I didn't make any major mistakes and rode as hard as I could,” told Holcombe. “I had a great battle with Jamie and to finish that close is good for the championship.”

“If someone told me before the start of the season I’d be battling for the championship until the final round, I wouldn’t believe them. No matter what the final decision of the ACU will be I’m still happy with how the things worked this year.”

McCanney’s win brought the final standings to a tie forcing the ACU Trials and Enduro Committee to take interpret the rules before crowning the overall champion. At the end of a dramatic season, both McCanney and Holcombe share the same number of points, wins and second place finishes.

Winning a day-long battle with his KTM teammate Daryl Bolter, David Knight climbed to the third spot of the overall podium. Suffering from illness during the week Bolter made mistakes in the last two tests and had to settle with fourth.
