Diego Nicoletti has opened his 2018 Italian Under23/Senior 2018 Championship campaign with a win at Cerro al Lambro near Milan.

This Italian championship for riders aged 14 to 35 saw Motoclub Melegnano in charge for round one where 267 riders faced four special stages in challenging riding conditions.

The rain and mud eventually caused organisers to cut short the event.

The fastest rider on the day was Diego Nicoletti, ahead of Federico Aresi who won the Marco Paolo Chiesa Trophy as the best Under-23 rider.

The next round of the 2018 Italian Under23/Senior 2018 Championship campaign will be at Bussi sul Tirino on May 6.
