Weston Beach Race organisers, RHL Activities have announced Billy Bolt will compete in the 36th edition of the historic British beach race on October 19-21.
As one of Britain’s rising off-road talents, the 21-year-old Billy Bolt is having a stellar 2018. Competing in this year’s World Enduro Super Series, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider sits second overall in the championship standings having claimed victory at the opening round of the series – Extreme XL Lagares, in Portugal.
That on the back of a runners-up place in the SuperEnduro World Championship, fifth at the world-famous Erzbergrodeo Red Bull Hare Scramble in Austria and fourth place at Red Bull Romaniacs — the world’s toughest hard enduro rallye.
Fuel to his Weston Beach Race fire too was third podium spot in last weekend’s very sandy Red Bull 111 Megawatt, round five of WESS in Poland.
With a strong pedigree in trials before enduro, Billy doesn’t lack in talent to take on his first beach race at Weston-Super-Mare and will be a welcome addition to the Hydrogarden Weston Beach Race start line in October.
“I’m really looking forward to competing at the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race for the very first time." Says Bolt. "It’s such an iconic event and one I grew up with, but never had the opportunity to race until now.
“When I stood on the promenade last year watching it I decided then that I had to come and race this year. The track looked awesome, especially the start with so many riders charging down the main straight. The atmosphere is also incredible too, the whole weekend feels like a dirt bike festival of sorts, which is really cool.
“As it’s my first beach race I’m not carrying any major expectations into the race. I know there’s going to be a lot of world-class talent on the start line with a lot of experience in this type of racing. But that said, I do feel like I’m riding well at the moment and know that I should be able to adapt to the sandy conditions. If I can go there and give it my best shot, I’ll be happy with the outcome.”
Gareth Hockey (Director of RHL Activities): “We’re delighted to have a rider of Billy Bolt’s calibre come and race this year’s HydroGarden Weston Beach Race. He is unquestionably a very special rising talent and as such we’re looking forward to seeing him make his beach racing debut with us.
“With competitors like Billy coming across from a trials and hard enduro background it goes to show the importance of a race like Weston. It’s the UK’s biggest dirt bike race and the addition of Billy to our line-up of world-class talent is testament to that. We wish him all the best in what will be the 36th edition of the race.”
