2020 Enduropale du Touquet win for Milko Potisek – second win for Potisek and Yamaha’s 14th victory at the infamous beach race.
The Enduropale du Touquet was not short on drama in 2020, the last round of the Championnat de France des Sables saw Milko Potisek putting the French flag back into the Normandy sand and giving Yamaha their 14th win at the toughest beach race in the world.
Fifth at the start, Potisek battled with early race leaders Camille Chapeliere, Jeremy Van Horebeek and Greg Smets during the first half hour of the race. Taking the lead five laps into the race, Potisek set a blistering pace through the remaining two and a half hours to take the win – despite going down multiple times while trying to get around lappers.
At the chequered flag Potisek was 3m:26s faster than MXGP rider, Jeremy Van Horebeek in second, and 5m:42s ahead of Nathan Watson, who made it to the last podium spot despite a drama filled day which saw him take a minute stop-go penalty. The result was enough for Watson to claim the 2020 French Beach Race Championship.
For Potisek though, the results was reward after a tough season and bitter disappointment in Le Touquet 12 months ago: “I had a bad start but I remained focused on myself. When I took the lead I just tried to keep it. It’s my second victory here, it was way harder to win this year than in 2018 but I made it happen thanks to my team, we showed that a factory bike is not needed to win here,” said Potisek somewhat provocatively.
Nearest challenger to Watson in the 2020 CFS championship, Todd Kellet came home in fifth place, 12 minutes down and the last of the 1250 riders to finish on the same lap as his Yamaha teammate and race winner, Potisek.
Enduro fans take a look who's in 33rd place. FIM EnduroGP track inspector, not to mention European and former Italian Champion, Maurizio Micheluz.
