Junior World Champion Matteo Cavallo signs with Sherco Racing for 2019 EnduroGP season.
The dominant force in the 2018 Junior Enduro World Championship, Matteo Cavallo, has joined Team Azzalin to race for Sherco in the 2019 Enduro GP championship.
The 24 year-old Italian will move up to the senior ranks in 2019 after his dominant season in Juniors. There was an obvious gap left by Matt Phillips at Azzalin’s team and easily Cavallo is a rider ready to fill those shoes and spearhead Sherco’s GP efforts.
Pictured alongside Sherco's 300cc four stroke model, Matteo Cavallo says of the move to become a full-factory rider: “I am very happy to sign my first contract as an official rider. I am honoured to join Team Azzalin, Fabrizio is an Enduro legend and on top of that, a very good person. This is a big step forward in my career, and now we will get to work to have a very good season with a great new bike.”
The Azzalin Team manager, Fabrizio Azzalin, is naturally pretty pleased to have signed a rider of Cavallo’s calibre: “We were looking for a young rider with good potential, Matteo is the reigning Junior World Champion, we could not hope for better.
“I wanted him on the team and after discussions with Thomas Teissier (Sherco General Manager) and Jordan Curvalle (Sherco Racing Team Manager), we all agreed that Matteo was the best option for us.
“We are going to have a young and motivated group of riders in 2019. We are building our future world champions!
“Matteo is going to make his debut with the “big guys” (in 2019) and the goal is to be competitive right away and get him on the podium.”
Speaking on behalf of Sherco, Jordan Curvalle said: “We are very happy to have Matteo with us! He is a very hardworking young rider who knows where he wants to go...along With Fabrizio we are happy to have one of the promising young Italians. We will work with him to help him become an outstanding senior rider.”
