Day one of Red Bull Megawatt is done and dusted with Jonny Walker sitting pretty at the top of the overall qualifying results. Narrowly edging out Wade Young, Walker managed to top the result sheets despite not posting the fastest time on either of the two special tests.
With all riders completing two laps of two tests, it was Slovakian rally star Stefan Svitko who was fastest on the motocross test while Taddy Blazusiak went fastest on the short but technical Endurocross test.
“I had a good day,” explained overall winner Jonny Walker. “It’s great to be back racing. I didn't take any risks but feel like I rode pretty well, well enough to get the win. I guess today’s result doesn't really mean a great deal as far as the main race goes, but it’s still good to know that I rode well.”
All of the event’s top riders made it through into Sunday’s main event without problems. Behind Walker it was Wade Young who claimed second overall, just three seconds behind Walker. Third went to Slovakian rally racer Stefan Svitko – the fastest rider around the motocross test.
Taddy Blazusiak’s return to Poland saw the US Endurocross racer fourth overall and the fastest rider around the Endurocross test. Taddy’s countryman Lukasz Kurowski finished fourth with Estonia’s Rannar Uusna sixth and Blake Gutzeit seventh.
Alfredo Gomez finished eighth and ahead of Manni Lettenbichler and Mario Roman. Never one to excel during qualifying, Graham Jarvis finished 15th.
Despite grey skies during the afternoon conditions stayed dry throughout the day’s qualifying runs.
