travis teasdale Hells Gate hard enduro 2017 1200

After his stunning debut ride at Italy’s Hell’s Gate Hard Enduro classic, South African Travis Teasdale’s runner-up result has got us talking…

South Africa is becoming the hotbed for Hard Enduro talent right now. At the top of the pecking order we’ve got Wade Young but all of a sudden there’s a lot of fast guys nipping at his heels.

In 2016 we saw Scott Bouverie hit the podium at Red Bull Sea to Sky and then on home turf at the Roof of Africa.

And just this weekend, Travis Teasdale moved past Young to snatch the runner-up result at Hell’s Gate.

Granted, Teasedale has been on our radar for about two years now when he debuted at the Red Bull Sea to Sky at the tail end of 2014. He’s had some good and bad moments during that time, of note being an impressive third overall on day one at Red Bull Romaniacs. But based on his Hell’s Gate performance he looks a much more rounded and focused rider.

In Italy and Hell’s Gate for the first time this weekend, Teasdale didn’t wait too long to impress. Catching and passing Mario Roman early on, he kept Graham Jarvis honest until the mid-way point of the race.

He then hung tight to hold off Young for second at the end of what was a long and draining day in the saddle. Now that takes some doing.

Of course there’s still an awful lot of racing left to go this year and once everyone gets up to full speed for the Red Bull Minas Riders in May only then we’ll know who’s going to be the real deal for 2017. But one things for sure, Teasdale has come out swinging and means business.

We’ve got a good feeling we’re gonna hear a lot more about this young South African during the next 10 months.
