Alfredo Gomez and Wade Young have retired from the Red Bull Romaniacs on day one.
The big news at the end of day one at the Red Bull Romaniacs is that two of the top favourites Alfredo Gomez and Wade Young are already out of the race.
Both riders suffered separate individual crashes, which ultimately saw them fail to finish the opening day of racing in Romania.
As yesterday’s prologue winner, Gomez was one of the main favourites for victory, looking to add a Romaniacs’ title to his Erzberg win from June.
However, after starting this morning third, Gomez suffered a crash shortly after the start…
“Eight minutes after the start I crashed with a bad landing. I picked a nerve in my right leg and also suffer some back pain as a result. I’m out of the race”
Hurting his back and leg in the process, Gomez continued on but was forced to call it quits on the final check of the day.
Sherco mounted Young hit trouble early on when he crashed heavily on a down hill section exiting a forest.
He picked himself up ad carried on, but later began to feel pain and was forced to stop. A hospital trip resulted in the diagnosis of two compressed vertebrae and injured lung.
Commenting on social media Young said…
“Today wasn't my day unfortunately! Things started off pretty well and then took a turn for the worst. “I am officially out of Red Bull Romaniacs with two damaged vertebra and a concussion on my lung.”
While Gomez and Young lost out today, provisional results show Graham Jarvis has taken control of the race with a nine-minute victory today over Mario Roman and Jonny Walker third.
