The words 'hard enduro' to us conjure up images of gnarly climbs, steep downhills and rock gardens, so what better tool to attack these obstacles than the BMW R 1200 GS.
Wait what.. Well, thats the machine that Mario Ausin has decided to use for this year's Hixpania Hard Enduro, held in the first week of November in Aguilar de Campoo, Spain.
It's not just any old GS though, the BMW R 1200 GS HXP as the team have named it is specifically customised for the task in hand. It will be contesting the 'Spanish Armada' class of the Hixpania - a class for two-cylinder, 700cc+ machines. Apparantely one of the design briefs was to make the bike match the medieval feel of the event too.
"It was important to give an old and rusty touch to the bike," explained Jorge Gonzalez, Hells Kitchen Garage preparer. "But on the other hand, the bike has to perfom as best as it can off-road too."
When there is a 'globe-of'death' in the background of the workshop, you know this guy knows what he's doing - and possibly a little crazy too!
The bike has been tricked out with metal mudguards, engine and frame protection, a big pair of Baja headlights and a coupl eof Akrapovic pipes to finish it off. It should certainly sound the business.
Weight has been stripped off the bike as much as possible with a big GS 1200 and she wears Metzeler off-road tyres. Nevertheless, the task in hand for Ausin will be sizeable.
The Hixpania Hard Enduro is the first international hard enduro event in Spain. It takes place in Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia) on the 3rd-5th November 2017. Entries are open for enduro, maxi-trail and Piaggio Vespa classes. An off road motorcycle party based on the medieval idea of the north of Spain.
