With 60 days to go until Extreme XL Lagares Hard Enduro opens the World Enduro Super Series, Sherco’s Wade Young will return to the Portuguese race to defend his crown.

In what looks set to become battle royale on May 11-13, Young starts with the #1 plate on his bike but has a big fight on his hands if he wishes to make it two wins in a row.

As part of the opening round of the newly-formed World Enduro Super Series (WESS), Young will square up against a full squad of KTM and Husqvarna riders.

Gas Gas, Beta and of course his own teammate Mario Roman also row into the mix.

Roman has winning intentions of his own too. Keen to add to his AlesTrem and Hell’s Gate victories this year, he’s already tested the Lagares’ waters with a win at the opening round of the Portuguese Hard Enduro Series at nearby Vallongo.

Of course, hunting the pair down KTM are a force to be reckoned with in Cody Webb, Jonny Walker — runner-up in 2017 — Taddy Blazusiak, Josep Garcia and Nathan Watson.

After a couple of years absence from Lagares, Graham Jarvis — already a three-time winner returns with Husqvarna.

He’s joined by Billy Bolt, Colton Haaker and three-time winner Alfredo Gomez, if recovered from injury.

Following their announcement last week, Gas Gas will contest the WESS series and do so with none other than David Knight and Lars Enöckl.

Beta’s Travis Teasdale has made a strong start to 2018 with podiums at AlesTrem, Hell’s Gate and The Tough One — he looks to continue that form in Portugal.

All in things are looking stacked for the 14th edition of Extreme Lagares.

Racing gets going with a night-time endurocross on Friday May 11th followed by the crackers Porto city prologue on Saturday before Sunday’s main event settles all scores.
