Enduro21 has learned the extent of Jonny Walker’s injuries sustained yesterday while battling for the win at Red Bull 111 Megawatt.
After setting the early pace, Walker was looking a strong contender for another win at the event he has made his own in recent years. But half way around the second of three laps, on a fast, downhill just before the Endurocross section of the Megawatt 30km lap, Walker lost control and crashed.
We understand Jonny remained conscious and suffered no concussion as a result of the get-off. He was assessed at the trackside and taken to Belchatow hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries are contained in his hands and lower arms with fractures to both bones in his left arm, close to the wrist. On his right hand he has broken the fourth finger. Jonny has had an operation to fit a plate to stabilise the fractures to arm and finger bones plus has an external stabiliser fitted to his lower left arm.
Adding to the injuries list, Jonny dislocated his left shoulder and suffered a lot of bruising across his body.
The news is obviously not great for Walker who was having a strong season leading the WESS championship into Megawatt with podiums at Lagares, Erzberg and Romaniacs. The no-score doesn’t put him out of it, Jonny still sits fourth overall in the points, but with the next round at Hawkstone Park in the UK just two weeks away it's our guess he certainly won't be competing there.
Walker hopes to be released from hospital in Poland later today (Monday), and will travel to Barcelona where he will see specialist on Tuesday, Sept 11.
More when we get it…in the meantime heal up soon JW22.
