No shortgae of blue smoke in the woods as Mario Roman takes his third victory at the 2019 Battle of Vikings, Sweden’s toughest Hard Enduro race.
Mario Roman clinched his third consecutive win at the 2019 Battle of Vikings Hard Enduro on Swedish soil in front of Ib Andersen and Patrik Sjöberg. Sunny weather and dry conditions made life easier for the riders at the Kinkhyttan ski resort as nearly half of the participants were able to complete the demanding course.
The two-day event started with Saturday’s prologue where Eddie Karlsson posted the fasted time. Karlsson was able to beat Roman in the timed qualifications, and on the two rider duel races, earning him the first starting position for the main race – it was not an easy win for Karlsson in a tight race that was only decided by half a metre in favour of the Swedish rider at the line.
On Sunday Roman and Karlsson rode at the front for the first lap when the Swede felt ill and sadly had to pull out from the race.
With his biggest challenger out of play Roman rode comfortably to victory finishing nearly ten minutes over the Norwegian trial rider Ib Andersen, who was second. Patrik Sjöberg took the last podium spot.
