After a tight battle Robert Scharl topped the third round of the German Hard Enduro Series in Vellahn ahead of Leon Hentschel and Kevin Gallas.
Entering its third round this season the Hard Enduro Series Germany (HESG) continued offering some close racing and attracting many riders from Northern Europe.
Following the traditional HESG race format, prologue, group races and final all in one day, the MC Vellahn laid down a track that combined SuperEnduro style obstacles with a narrow sandy forest section.
Gallas wins the prologue
After having missed the opening two races of the season Kevin Gallas made his comeback to racing at the third round and posted the fastest time at the prologue. Even if he hasn’t been racing lately it looks like Gallas hasn’t lost the skills that made him HESG and Junior SuperEnduro 2018 champion as he was seven seconds faster than Leon Hentschel.
In the group races it was a three men battle between Robert Scharl, Kevin Gallas and Leon Hentschel. While Gallas took the early lead and won the first race Robert Scharl took no prisoners and came away with the win in the second race.
Final honours for Scharl
As it happened in the first group race Gallas took the early lead in the first lap of the 60 minute race and started to set the pace. Anyway, midway through the race he was forced to slow down due to stomach problems with Scharl taking full advantage of the situation and making the pass for the lead.
As soon as Scharl got to the front of the pack he put the hammer down and opened a gap on Gallas to secure the first place. Everything looked set up for Gallas to maintain the runner up position but Hentschel made his move shortly before the end to finish second with Gallas third.
"Yesterday I was still training at the MC Parchim to adjust the bike a bit to the sandy conditions. It was a great race which was organized super again,” said Scharl.
HESG round three final results:
Next stop for the 2019 HESG will be August 24 at Neugattersleben.
