Preview: Hard Enduro Series Germany finale – Championship decider for Scharl and Hentschel

The 2019 Hard Enduro Series Germany heading for dramatic night-time finish at final round this weekend in Schwepnitz – winner takes all between Robert Scharl and Leon Hentschel.

The 2019 Hard Enduro Series Germany (HESG) will hit its season finale this Saturday, October 19, in Neuhaus-Schierschnitz with Robert Scharl and Leon Hentschel separated by a single point.

Scharl has been in the points lead since the start of the 2019 season but Hentschel has built momentum as the season progressed and arrives at the finale having taken his first overall win at the previous round.

With just one point separating the duo, whoever finishes in front of the other rider will be crowned the 2019 HESG champion.

The sporadic appearances of Kevin Gallas in the series this season has also brought some spice to the mix for this final round. The 2018 HESG champion is now fourth in the points following his win at the Neugattersleben Extreme and he’ll be eager to repeat his last year’s victory at Schwepnitz.

Riders fromm six different nations will line up at the start with the Estonian national champion, Rene Jerbach, among them. Florian Görner will make a return to the series after his success at the fourth round where he won the Junior class.

Night time finish

The final round will follow the traditional HESG schedule with the prologue, group races and the final all happening the same day. Riders begin with a timed prologue lap to determine start order. The group races then run for 90 minutes with the top 20 of each group heading to the final.

The organizers of the race, Quadpoint Schwepnitz, have decided to lengthen the final where the finish will take place in the darkness with the co-operation of the local fire brigade, who will help with illumination.

According to Patrick Jentsch, head of the organizing team: “The track is 95% finished, we are still taking care of the rest of the work this week so that everything is ready by Friday noon. We have opened up many new obstacles and sections to last year and we are sure that the level will rise again”.

Additionally, the group races, final and Master Honours ceremony from this round will be broadcasted live via Facebook at the Hard Enduro Series Germany page.
