Manuel Lettenbichler and Cody Webb set to race the first AMA Extreme Off Road West event of 2020 this weekend at King of the Motos in Hammertown.
After a one-year hiatus, the King of the Motos – KOM – extreme enduro is back in 2020 kicking off the new AMA Extreme Off-Road West Series. Based out of Johnson Valley, California, the venue commonly known as HammerTown will see WESS Enduro World Champion and reigning KOM champion, Cody Webb in action for the first time this season.
Lettenbichler arrives on US soil in the first of a series of events he’ll race under the KTM North America banner ahead of beginning his duties defending his crown back in Europe in the WESS Championship.
Meanwhile 2018 winner Cody Webb lines up for his first race with the FactoryONE Sherco Team after 10 months off the bike due to his ACL injury.
Keen to get his extreme enduro season started, Webb says: “I’m feeling dialed and ready to get back after it! I missed being at the races and that whole environment, so it’s great to be back and I can’t wait. 10 months of no racing so it’s been far too long.”
2020 AMA Extreme Off-Road West Series round one
The KOM will mark the starting point for the recently born AMA Extreme Off-Road West Series which stretches from February to June with the Grand Championship taking place at Tennessee KnockOut, August 14-16 – full schedule at the bottom of the post.
The race starts with a morning prologue, based near HammerTown, to determine the starting order for the main event which is divided into three laps, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
As the name suggest every one of them will increase its difficulty giving every racer, from amateur to Pro, a challenging day of racing.
The King of the Motos’ course is GPS based, making it the perfect training ground for Cody as he plans to take on the Red Bull Romaniacs later on this year. Unfortunately this year will not see the infamous KOM night race as part of the weekend schedule.
