Two-stroke off road carburettor comparison test using Keihin, Lectron, SmartCarb systems for Extreme Enduro with Cody Webb.

Cody Webb’s explainer video jumps into the technical aspects of carburettors, specifically the standard Keihin on his Sherco SE 300 versus “smart” carburettors from Lectron and SmartCarb.

Cody says when he joined the FactoryONE Sherco Team this season it gave him the opportunity to try out multiple options for carburettors on his 300 two-stroke. “I was fortunate enough to have both Lectron and SmartCarb reach out to me to test their set-ups.” Explains Webb. “Each carburettor is different in their own ways, but still bring a smile to my face while riding the bike. I'm not going to declare a winner since this is only a comparison of my personal experience testing each one.”

Webb talks us through his experience using standard Keihin carburettor and how set-up is important for Hard Enduro and then progresses through how the Lectron and SmartCarb work for his arm of the sport.

The idea with this video, Cody says, is simply “to share my experience since I know there is a lot of negative information out there on the Lectron and SmartCarb.” Webb was given these two “smart” carburettors, but was not compensated in any way he says but “just wanted to share my feedback.” Anyway, we thought it was an interesting look at the different options out there.

Enduro21 previously took a closer look at how the SmartCarb system works in a separate feature.

Cody makes a couple of corrections on this voice over (and rightly points out he is knowledgable but no expert “so don’t judge him on it”)

Correction 1: When talking about how to adjust metering rod on Lectron. You push up on the rod to twist it so curved side is in correct position. You only need to twist the rod without pushing up to richen/lean. I winged the video and am ashamed I messed it up.

Correction 2: William Edmonston invented the metering rod carb concept that includes the Lectron and ended with the AFT carb. But Corey Dyess at SmartCarb authored and holds the patents for the SmartCarb; metering rod, Venturi algorithmic prediction, clicker adjuster and tip over valves. These tip over valves prevent any fuel leaking out of the carburettor.
