Australian ISDE 2019 Team change – Higlett replaces Milner

Reigning ISDE individual champion and Australian Trophy Team leader, Daniel Milner rules himself out of Portugal 2019 – Fraser Higlett steps-up.

Motorcycling Australia have announced a rider line-up change to the team set to defend their International Six Days Enduro Trophy Team title in Portugal this November.

Outright 2018 winner in Chile, Daniel Milner has withdrawn from the event due to the timing of the birth of his first child, due in October.

Posting the news on social media, Milner said: “Sadly, I will be unable to defend my individual and team title. Since 2011, when I was first chosen to represent my country, I have not missed one ISDE, so as hard as this is, I know I will be more than pre-occupied with a different type of milestone in my life. I wish all the boys and girls riding the best of luck and hope to see team Australia back up on the podium in November!”

Milner’s understandable shift of priorities means we will not see the same masterful performance he put on throughout the Six Days in Chile but that will be Fraser Higlett’s gain.

The Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team Australia rider will step again after making his debut ISDE appearance in Chile 2018 where he finished ninth in the E1 class and 38th overall.

“This has been an unexpected but super positive surprise!” Said Higlett of the call-up. “I’m really honoured to be returning to the ISDE for a second year and representing my country. 2018 marked my first year in the team, and I learnt a lot which I’ll take into Portugal to help defend our title.”

Some camps are notably asking why the position was not given to Josh Strang. The highly experienced ISDE competitor switched to Kawasaki for 2019 and initially team selectors missed him off due to mis-understandings about his new bike getting the support needed at the Six Days.

In the meantime, Strang made different plans for November so when Milner dropped out and he was asked to race, unfortunately Josh was then not able to take up the opportunity.
