Monster Energy Honda Team's Joan Barreda is back in Spain and recovering from cleansing work done to the arm he injured in a training incident only a day before the start of the Desafio Ruta 40.
The Spanish rider came off his Honda whilst training for the Argentinian rally on the outskirts of San Juan and hurt his left forearm. Although the injury was not too serious, it was decided by Barreda and his team it would be sensible to retire from the rally.
Barreda (from Facebook):
"Lucky to have this super team for when it's needed.
They also put their work and passion to ensure that the goals are fulfilled.

Dr. Steuri Thank you, Dr. Vila and Dr. Alonso.

Barreda, who finished the 2017 Dakar rally in an impressive fifth, despite incurring a one-hour penalty for illegal refuelling, should be back on his bike in time for testing in Morocco later this month.
