Dakar Rally Results: Stage Six Win For Quintanilla

Results from stage six of Dakar Rally which sees Pablo Quintanilla play a strong card to win the day and retake the overall standings lead.

 

Claiming his first individual stage victory at this year’s Dakar Rally, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider Pablo Quintanilla has retaken the lead of the event’s provisional overall standings. 

Stage six proved to a battle of the South American riders with Quintanilla battle for Kevin Benavides pushing each other all the way for the day won. Quintanilla took the virtual lead before the penultimate waypoint and never looked back. 

Quintanilla now has a four minutes and 38 seconds ahead of Ricky Brabec with Toby Price third, 5m07s behind.

The previous stage winner, Sam Sunderland, was dealt a blow today when he clipped a rock which detached his rear brake caliper. Racing a stretch of the day with only a front brake, Sam lost over 20 minutes in the process. 

Mark Tielmans placed 36thon stage six and highest finisher in the Original by Motul (self-service) class. Tielmans is also sixth-placed rookie at Dakar 2019 and sits 34thoverall.

Monday’s stage seven includes a loop around the city of San Juan de Marcona. In a total distance of 387km, the day’s timed special is 323km long.
