Results: Dakar Rally stage eight victory for Walkner – Price leads

Dramatic stage eight of the 2019 Dakar Rally sees leader Brabec retire, KTM Rally team pushing hard and Toby Price take over the general standings with two days remaining.

Riding with an injured and heavily strapped right wrist, Toby Price set the pace on stage eight of the 2019 Dakar. The 575km stage had 360km of special for the 2016 Dakar champ Price to negotiate but he was eventually pipped by his team-mate, Matthias Walkner for teh stage win with Pablo Quintanilla in second.

The times were tight between the top three however, with Price 1m23s behind and Qunitanilla 45s behind Walkner. That gap was enough for the Aussie star to take over the overall lead in the 2019 Dakar by just over a minute from Quintanilla.

In this topsy-turvy 2019 Dakar, Price is the fourth rider to lead the general standings in eight days after luckless Ricky Brabec went out of the rally with a broken engine.
