A closer look at Sherco’s Baja 450, the under-the-radar “rally lite” option for Baja and Cross-Country Rally events.
Sherco’s Baja ‘rally lite’ edition slipped under our radar a little after the new model launch of the 2020 enduro and cross-country range this summer (we also missed out on the 2019 launch).
The model option has existed for a year or so now but we figured it may have slipped under many people’s radar too as it is difficult to spot on the Sherco new bikes list.
Standing credibly as a ready to go, rally lite machine for €15,000, Sherco’s Baja model is a fairly simple idea yet a solid solution for riders wanting to ride long distance, navigation events like Baja or the numerous rally events around the globe.
Naturally it will also make a good option for any kind of distance riding where you want a more lively and better handling bike but also want some extra fuel capacity.
A full-spec rally bike from other manufacturers, or taking the option of kitting up a stock MX or Enduro machine yourself, can be costly choices while this Baja model comes in at a more affordable price by comparison – although, of course, you can simply buy a bigger tank and go racing for an even cheaper alternative.
Built upon the well-established SF-R Factory enduro models (with stiffer suspension, X-Trig triple clamps, Akrapovic exhaust system), it is available in both 450 and 500 capacities and comes with increased fuel capacity including a bespoke rear carbon fuel tank, plus the all-important navigation mounting.
Sherco Baja has a small handful of simple upgrades to help it handle rally work:
13 litre fuel tank
Additional 5 litre rear carbon fuel tank
Navigation mounting system and handlebar controls
Larger sized (270mm) Galfer front brake disc/rotor
