Hispania Rally, Europe’s only roadbook desert rally, sees 180 riders facing 1500km, five stage race.
Europe’s only desert roadbook rally begins in Guadix, Spain this week. The five-day event, now in its third year, has attracted 180 competitors to Southern Spain to race 1500 kilometres with 1000km timed special stages exploring the Gorafe desert.
Routes begin and end each day in the city of Guadix near Granada with the opening and closing podiums taking place under the impressive cathedral.
Dakar legend, Gerard Farres has been in charge of course and roadbook verification which this year are handed out each evening pre-coloured, just as in the 2020 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.
With the majority of riders being amateur, this pre-painted roadbook levels the playing field and gives everyone the same experience of navigation on the course.
Factory Sherco Rally Team rider, Lorenzo Santolino has been helping with a roadbook workshop for the amateur riders the day before the race. Pro riders to watch include Joan Pedrero, Mario Patrao and Sebastien Souday.
