Camp Coker Bullet GNCC race report – Kailub Russell takes his second win of 2019

GNCC round four saw another intense fight between Kailub Russell and Thad Duvall at the Camp Coker Bullet – Russell runs out the victor but it was another close call from this tight 2019 season.

Kailub Russell has made a step forward in his hunt for his seventh consecutive GNCC title with his second win of the season at Moree’s Sportsman’s Preserve in South Carolina. Behind him Thad Duvall worked hard form a bad start to get on Russell’s case.

The XC1 Pro race started with Jordan Ashburn taking the holeshot, but Russell quickly took the lead and opened a gap from the field in the first half of the race.

Duvall and Baylor didn’t have such greats starts but Duvall pushed during the first two laps and caught Russell by the third lap. The two of them were riding together for the rest of the race with Duvall taking the lead in some occasions.

Near the end of the race Russell managed a slight gap but an error on the final lap let Duvall back close but not quite close enough as Russell took his second win of the season by just over one second from Duvall.

Despite his poor start, Stew Baylor made a path to the podium. He was second on lap two but after battling with Duvall, Baylor sat in third until the chequered flag ahead of Trevor Bollinger and Josh Strang rounding out the top five.

Ben Kelly on a mission in XC2.

Despite being dead last off the start, Ben Kelly still went on to take his fourth win from four this season in XC2. By the end of the first lap he already caught his team-mate Liam Draper and went on to snatch the lead.

From there, Kelly ran his own race to finish more than five minutes ahead of Michael Witkowski in second. Austin Lee got his best result in this season by finishing third in the Camp Coker Bullet GNCC with Draper in fourth and Evan Smith in fifth.

Jesse Ansley wins the FMF XC3 125 Pro-Am race.

Ansley managed the holeshot in the 125 race but was quickly passed by Cody Barnes, with Jason Thomas relegating him to third by the end of lap one. Ansley remained third until the two-lap card came up and then made the move back to first where he continued to push and finish three minutes ahead of Barnes. Anthony Federico got the final podium spot.

Third win of the season for Tayla Jones.

The Aussie Tayla Jones was back on her best form this weekend taking the holeshot and running her own race to take the win. Becca Sheets, Rachael Archer, Mackenzie Tricker and Brooke Cosner finished the first lap all ooking for podium places but as the race wore on it was Sheets who stole clear in second with Tricker passing Archer for a final podium position.
