Results: third win of the season for Kailub Russell at the X-Factor Whitetails GNCC

Kailub Russell grabs hold of 2019 GNCC championship after winning the X-Factor Whitetails GNCC – his second straight win and third of the season.

The fifth round of the GNCC series was held this weekend in Peru, Indiana, and Kailub Russell achieved his 57th career win. Russell took the lead just after the start and stayed put until the chequered flag ahead of Thad Duvall and Josh Toth.

When the flag dropped to start the XC1 Pro race it didn’t take long to Kailub Russell to get to the front of the pack. The KTM rider went on to build a lead and maintain in until the finish line.

Thad Duvall, as has happened regularly during this season, got to second early on the race and tried to launch an attack on Russell. The gap between them was running around one minute to 40 seconds during the race. On the last lap Duvall put on a fast lap to try to catch the KTM rider but the win slipped his fingers by seven seconds.

Josh Toth achieved a third podium spot, his first XC1 Open Pro class podium in GNCC. Toth, who is Russell’s team-mate, followed suit in taking his position early and maintaining to the flag.

Fourth was Steward Baylor who had to work his way up to fourth during the race but couldn’t get any further up. Steward holds third overall in the points standings behind Duvall and Russell who now leads by 18 points.

Ben Kelley with no rivals in the XC2 Pro class

Even bad start didn’t hold Ben Kelley from winning in the XC2 Pro class. The KTM rider fought through the pack in the opening lap to get to the top spot, but once he got it he didn’t let it go. Having won every round contested in this year’s GNCC series, Kelley looks like he will give no chance to his rivals in the chase for the title.

Craig Delong is coming back strong after his preseason crash that left him with a broken collarbone. Delong battled trough the pack to reach second place halfway through the race, and build himself a comfortable gap over Austin Lee taking his second straight third place finish.

Jesse Ansley flies to his third FMF XC3 125 Pro-Am win this year

Jesse Ansley was yet another KTM rider having an unchallenged run to first spot. Just after the gate dropped Ansley grabbed the holeshot and never looked back.

Cody Barnes had a tougher time after a crash in the opening laps of the race he had to pit and change his exhaust. But Barnes stayed focused and was the second rider to see the chequered flag.

The third rider in the podium was Chase Colville who is constantly improving results at this year’s GNCC series and was rewarded with a first career podium in the class.

Tayla Jones unstoppable in the WXC class

As in previous rounds, Tayla Jones is finding her feet in the 2019 series after a steady start to the season. The Australian took the X-Factor Whitetails victory ahead of Becca Sheets in second place. The Whitetails GNCC proved to be a good race to see new faces on the podium as Rachael Archer who achieved her first podium of the season in WMX.
