First Look: Yamaha 2020 Cross-Country models – New YZ250FX and YZ125X

Yamaha unveils its new 2020 Cross-Country off road motorcycle range with a redesigned YZ250FX and an all-new YZ125X as highlights. 

 

Yamaha’s Cross-Country line-up for 2020 has undertaken the revamp we’d been expecting with an updated YZ250FX four stroke and an all-new YZ125X two-stroke aimed firmly at younger riders getting the big changes. 

Basically the motocross models with different engine and suspension settings to make them suitable for Hare Scramble and GNCC racing, the four model 2020 range also includes the YZ250X two-stroke and YZ450FX  which was updated for MY2019.

2020 Yamaha YZ125X details:

The new YZ125X shares Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS) 125cc, liquid-cooled, two-stroke, reed-valve inducted engine as the YZ125 but with key differences. 

  • Six-speed wide-ratio transmission designed for cross-country riding
  • Model-specific CDI unit
  • New power valve shape
  • Model-specific cylinder head combustion chamber shape
  • “Gripper” seat cover
  • 18-inch rear wheel 
  • Sealed O-ring chain

Yamaha YZ250FX 2020 details:

Based on the revamped 2019 YZ250F, the YZ250FX shares all the technology from the motocrosser but naturally with a range of upgrades to make it cross-country friendly plus Yamaha’s easy-to-use wireless Yamaha Power Tuner APP and a handlebars mounted map switch among the new features.

  • YZ250F motocross engine tuned for cross-country 
  • New intake and exhaust ports
  • Wide ratio, six-speed transmission
  • Electric start with auto decompression system (no kick starter)
  • Heavy duty clutch 
  • Larger 8.2 litre fuel tank

Yamaha YZ250X 2020 details:

The Yamaha YZ250X, like the YZ125X, is based on the motocross model with revised engine internals and esstentially only receives graphics updates for 2020.

Yamaha YZ450FX details:

Updated significantly last season, the YZ450FX gets graphics update for 2020 and like the 250FX features Yamaha’s Power Tuner software adjustable via an App plus a map selection switch mounted on the handlebars.
