Kailub Russell to sit out the final GNCC 2019 this weekend at the Ironaman to focus on rehab ahead of ISDE in Portugal.
FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Kailub Russell will not race at the GNCC final round this Sunday, October 27, in order to maximise rehab on his shoulder in preparation for the upcoming ISDE.
A practice crash before the Mountaineer GNCC, plus riding the majority of the event, re-aggravated Russell’s shoulder injury. With the 94th International Six Days Enduro just around the corner the Team USA Trophy rider has decided to miss the season’s finale, the Ironman GNCC.
“I am definitely bummed to not be lining up at Ironman this weekend,” says Russell. “It’s always a fun place to race. With the GNCC Championship wrapped up, we decided it would be best to recover the shoulder and get ready for the ISDE in November.”
The recently crowned seven-time GNCC champion will represent the US Team in Portimao, Portugal, on November 11 - 16.
KTM team manager as well as ISDE Team USA manager, Antti Kallonen, adds: “It’s a bummer for sure that Kailub is not lining up at the season finale this weekend but together we have decided that it is best to sit out this race in order to give the maximum time for rehab before ISDE.”
