Riding a stormer to the outright victory at the Italian Enduro Championship opener, young Brit Nathan Watson’s Monday Shout Out praise is well deserved.
A lot happens in 12 months. For Nathan Watson it’s been a busy, brave and career defining chapter of his life.
As a MXGP top ten runner and potential British motocross champion, he had a lot going for him every time he lined up behind a motocross starting gate.
But in February 2016 he opted to leave behind that motocross career with serious prospects and jump into the unknown world of enduro.
Landing feet first with immediate success he claimed a day one victory at the opening round of the Italian Enduro Championship.
But then the real journey began as enduro moved away from his comfort blanket of Lignano's sandy shores to the depths of some meaty European forestry.
Chipping away through the mixture of highs and lows, it took a good few months more until victory came again, albeit this time at the top of the Enduro 1 podium.
Fast forwarder to February 2017, this weekend just passed, and Watson delivered a performance that was a far cry from a rookie who raced his very first enduro 12 months previous.
On top form each and every time he hit the track, he won Saturday’s morning enduro by a whopping two minutes.
Leading a stacked field of riders home in the night time extreme test, he then capped the weekend off by striding away to a five minute margin of victory in the two-hour beach race.
With his freshman enduro year now successfully put to bed, and the four week countdown to the EnduroGP season begun, it’s going to prove very interesting to see what Watson’s sophomore season delivers.
