2024 Italian Enduro Championship: Brad Freeman and Andrea Verona finish level on points – Beta rider crowned champion
Hotly contested 2024 Italian Assoluti Italian Enduro Championship goes right to the wire at final round with Brad Freeman, Andrea Verona and Steve Holcombe all in contention – full final results and standings.
The final round of the 2024 Assoluti d’Italia Enduro Championship came to Arma di Taggia with a narrow three points lead for Beta Racing’s Brad Freeman over GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona and with Honda RedMoto Racing’s Steve Holcombe a further four points behind.
Much like the 2024 EnduroGP World Championship season, the Italian series has been a battle all through the year with this final weekend going right to the wire – all that was missing was a Josep.
Set to be a two-day finale of the season, the organisers were forced to make it Saturday shootout with a sever weather warning for the Sunday.
Following a Friday night Super Test or Prologue on the beach, won by Verona ahead of Freeman and Holcombe, day one was reduced to about 40 km by decision of track inspector Mario Rinaldi and featured three special tests: a 2 km Cross Test along the picturesque beach of Arma di Taggia, a 6 km Enduro Test characterised by hard and muddy ground, and finally a challenging Extreme Test, which offered a stunning view over the sea from the nearby hills.
It was a day which see-sawed overall leaders with each test and lap with the three protagonists nip and tuck in the timesheets.
Trading the lead into the final lap, Steve Holcombe ruled himself out of contention in the final enduro test where a crash cost him a lot of time and any chance of the win.
Andrea Verona meanwhile stormed back to the top on the final lap to sneak the win away from Freeman and the pair finished the season exactly tied on 132 points.
Brad Freeman it is then on tie-break who takes 2024 Italian Enduro Champion’s crown ahead of Andrea Verona and Steve Holcombe third.
Among the other title winners at the final Italian round were Lorenzo Macoritto in 250 2T class, Kevin Cristino Junior champion, Matteo Cavallo in the 300 2T class, Verona 450 4T winner and Freeman the “Foreigners” class.
