2023 German Hard Enduro Series: Wade Young dominates the Granit Scramble
Results and onboard video from Wade Young's win at the third round of the DOWATEK German Hard Enduro Series, the Granit Scramble, which also acted as the third round of the European Hard Enduro Challenge.
Just one week after finishing the 20th edition of Red Bull Romaniacs, Wade Young loaded up his Sherco and headed to Gefrees, Germany for round three of both the German Hard Enduro Series and the European Hard Enduro Challenge.
The 2023 Granit Scramble did not see many changes for this year and the 161 riders had to face a prologue designed to be "very technical combination of climbs and rock gardens" before completing five laps of a course in a maximum of four hours.
Fynn Hannemann wins the prologue
It's not something we are used to see at the races, but this time the first rider to start the prologue set a time that stood at the top of the board for the rest of the day. German youngster Fynn Hanneman made no mistakes in all sections to take his second win of the season.
Wade Young unmatchable at the Granit Scramble
With a course that was virtually unchanged from last season, it took Wade Young half a lap to show his intentions. The Sherco rider, who started in the front row, gradually left his rivals behind and by the end of the first lap he already had a healthy lead of more than five minutes.
From then on, the South African increased his pace to reach the finish line after 2h25m, almost 50 minutes faster than the second rider, despite suffering in the uphills (check the video above).
Prologue winner Hannemann held on to second as long as he could in, but admitted he had to let Marc Wulf and Michele Bosi pass after running out of steam. Bosi was finally second after 3h14m with Wulf completing the podium.
