6D helmets unveil their new ATR-3 off-road motorcycle helmet with impressive updates including improved ventilation and Advanced Omni-Directional Suspension system, plus an overall weight reduction.

It’s fair of 6D to claim the ATR-2 had a strong reputation in off-road. Already with a good few years under its belt, and a long list of Pro riders from enduro, rally, motocross and cross-country disciplines, the real world riders like us at Enduro21 have relied on its comfort and high safety standards to look after our brains.

Well, what do you know? They made a better one, the ATR-3. Designed with “unprecedented” protection and comfort they say, it takes all the good stuff including the safety standards from the ATR-2, improves on many and comes in lighter overall.

ODS 5 system technical highlights:

6D say the ATR-3’s Rebuildable ODS system, now in its 5th iteration, represents the “pinnacle” of their commitment to rider safety. This new technology includes an Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) multi-impact outer liner and a replaceable Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) inner liner, connected by elastomeric isolation dampers. The newest generation is lighter and more efficient at improving impact mitigation for both linear and angular accelerations than its predecessor.

  • Improved ODS Design: Optimized energy management, enhanced ventilation channels and a new lighter weight design.
  • Replaceable Inner EPS Liner: Enables helmet rebuilds and extends the lifespan of the helmet if the shell meets 6D standards.
  • Multi-Impact EPP Outer Liner: Incorporates isolation damping towers for enhanced impact absorption.
  • Rotational Energy Management Disks: Reduces friction & angular acceleration for improved safety.
  • Superior Impact Mitigation: Effective in low, mid, and high-velocity impacts.
  • Improved Manufacturing Process Improves Quality and Performance
  • Rebuild/Crash Replacement Program: Providing options for post-impact helmet maintenance and replacement.

Weight reduction and improved ventilation

The ATR-3 focuses on enhancing weight reduction and ventilation with a range of innovative new features. Its new 3K Carbon Composite shell is not only durable like the previous tri-composite design but also has a carbon fiber finish.

The helmet also boasts “significantly improved ventilation” with large intake vents and direct channels to improve airflow around the rider’s head.

Combined with the revamped shell composition and streamlined ODS system, the ATR-3 claims a weight reduction of 100 grams, resulting in a lower center of gravity and naturally improved rider feel.

The ATR-3 also bring several updates to the table aimed at improving overall performance including an Eject-compatible design, a magnetic chinstrap clasp new custom designed titanium D-rings, removable roost guard, mud visor extension, integrated speaker pockets, and compatibility with drink tubes.

The new ATR-3 also maintains and improves the safety standards set by its predecessor, the ATR-2. Features such as the EPP Chinbar, clavicle cutaway on the lower sides, cervical spine relief, sternum pad, shear-away visor screws, and emergency removable cheek pads.

“With over 13 years of experience in helmet development, 6D’s Omni-Directional Suspension technology has been rigorously tested and proven effective worldwide across multiple helmet platforms,” said Bob Weber, 6D’s CEO and co-founder. “We continuously challenge ourselves to enhance our technology and advance rider safety. This on-going pursuit of innovation has led to the creation of the ATR-3—the lightest, best-ventilated, and most technically advanced helmet we have ever produced.”
