First look: Meet the Pioneer, Husqvarna’s Electric Enduro Model
Husqvarna announce all-new Pioneer electric-powered motorcycle to the enduro model range for 2025.
“The perfect solution to recreational riding”? Husqvarna’s new electric motorcycle, the Pioneer, should prick your ears up.
Listen to the facts then: a street-legal machine designed primarily for offroad, powered by a 5.5 kWh Li-Ion battery that offers a claimed range of up to 137 kilometres and a running time of up to three hours.
Add to that a water-cooled 11 kW motor provides a claimed peak power of 19.2 kW and 37.6 Nm of torque, inside a new chassis and otherwise with all the enduro model range components like brakes, skid plate, lights, WP XACT forks, WP XPLOR PDS rear shock and Michelin Medium Enduro tyres.
Like the new KTM Freeride E already announced, the Pioneer has been a long time coming from the KTM Group, aka Pierer Mobility Group but it’s hard not to see this as a complete package, fully developed as a street legal enduro machine to stand alongside the rest of their enduro range and offer soemthing new for, well, a new generation of dirt bike riders.
All-new chassis bears the weight
The Pioneer has a chro-moly frame unique to this bike which incorporates the motor and battery as load-bearing components, which reduces overall weight and contributes to the geometry and flex characteristics they say.
Looking around the Pioneers there’s as much familar as there is new but one thing you’ll notice is the rear brake lever on the left side of the ProTaper handlebars.
Ride modes
Three, selectable power modes give the Pioneer options to suit varying abilities and the terrain plus traction control, which can be activated with any ride mode, and three levels of energy recuperation for the battery are available too using the handlebar-mounted switch cube.
In-house electric powerhouse
The 11 kW electric motor has been designed and developed in-house by Husqvarna Mobility they say. It has no clutch or gearbox and is water-cooled.
A 5.5 kWh Li-Ion battery claims up to three hours of running time and can be replaced with a fully charged spare within 10 minutes, Husqvarna says, although that seems a bit long to us.
A 660 W charger comes with the Pioneer and a full recharge takes eight hours using a standard household supply. With the Pioneer designed to be ridden offroad in all conditions, the battery, motor and all connected components are rated IP 67, making them all fully dust and waterproof.
WP Suspension
The Pioneer sports WP XACT air spring forks up front (lighter than sprung type) and is supplied with a pump to adjust the pressure. The suspension has 250mm of travel front suspension is compression and rebound adjustable using easy-access clickers.
The WP XPLOR PDS rear shock offers both high and low speed compression, rebound and preload adjustment and has and 240mm of travel.
