Austrian company RARE have developed an electric clutch for the Stark Varg models – answering the call many riders in enduro have to help with bike control, particularly in hard enduro.

The first digital clutch for the Stark Varg? Adding “a new dimension of control and precision to your electric bike”. We’d heard about it but now you can buy one as RARE, an Austrian company (not based in Mattighofen are they? Asking for a friend), have released an electric clutch lever for the Stark Varg models.

Though Enduro21 testing of the Varg, plus results in enduro show, that the trick is to adjust your riding to suit the no clutch style, one of the most often repeated comments from people who try the bike is, “I wish it had a clutch”.

The RARE clutch would seem to be the answer to all those comments with a plug and play lever. RARE say their clutch needs no complex setup or modifications, all you to do is mount the lever on the handlebars, store the electronic housing behind the front plate and plug in the connectors. “Then you switch on your Varg…and you are ready to go.”

RARE Clutch details:

CNC milled

7075 Aluminium

Designed to eliminate maintenance

No physical flywheel

2-year warranty

Throttle and clutch combined

After the clutch is installed, all system cables and data are routed into the RARE Control Unit. Meaning both the clutch signal from the clutch lever and the power signal from the throttle now run into the CU.

Brain of the system

The Control Unit is the central interface of the RARE Clutch system. Serving as the digital brain of the clutch our patent pending calculation algorithm processes throttle and clutch signals in real time, delivering precise and consistent engagement.

Precise power signal

Your Varg no longer relies solely on throttle input. Instead, it receives a flow of information - all combined into one precise power signal.

Over the air updates

Software updates can be installed directly via your smartphone. Unlock new features and possibilities based on your existing hardware.

It’s not cheap, 1K is a lot of cash (In UK/Europe please check in your country) but this looks to us like a quality product which answers the call of many riders looking at the Stark for enduro but holding back becasue of the lack of lever.
