24MX Enduro European Championship round three in Sipoo, Finland sees Johansson Yamaha rider Roni Kytonen winning across two days ahead of Anthony Geslin and Dan Mundell in tough conditions.

Starting with a Cross Test on the hard pack Sipoo motocross track, host to EnduroGP rounds previously, riders at round three of the ’24 European series then moved to the Enduro Test, a technical and typical Finnish forest challenge, before hitting the hard and rocky Extreme Test for a day of three laps of three tests.

Typical both of European Enduro and Finnish events, day one was a tough one for 100-plus riders with long and tehnical tests (check the onboard video below) leaving the organisers to shorten the Sunday to two laps for the women, two and a half for everyone else.

Finnish rider Roni Kytonen returned to the European Championship after five years and despite a fall in the last special test took victory on his home round.

Behind him, the two Atomic Moto team riders Anthony Geslin and Diego Haution battled all day to finish separated by just 10 seconds in the last test.

On day two the Johansson MPE Enduro team rider again claimed the victory, this time ahead of a resurgent rides from Daniel Mundell and Junior rider Matej Skuta completing the overall podium.

In the class battles Kytonen was naturally the dominant force in E1 class, ahead of championship leader Davide Soreca and Davide Mei on both days.

In the E2 class British rider Alex Walton got the better of Eemil Pohjola and Daniel Mundell, winning after nine tests. On day two Dan Mundell turned it around to beat compatriot Walton with Pohjola dropping to third.

Anthony Geslin dominated the E3 class on both days, winning over Mattia Capuzzo and Robert Riedel on day one with the same paring switching places behind the Frenchman on the Sunday podium.

Ride onboard for the technical Extreme Test

An adrenaline-filled finale in the Junior 1 class on day one saw Pyry Juupaluoma overtaking championship leader Killian Lunier who fell in the last special. Tiitus Enjala finished in third place.

Day two in the Junior 1 class saw Frenchman Killian Lunier return to the top step of the podium, winning ahead of a pair of Finns Tiitus Enjala and Albert Juhola.

In Junior 2, Diego Haution dominated, winning by a margin of 1 minute and 28 seconds over Italian Riccardo Fabris with Matyas Chlum third. Championship leader Matej Skuta had bike problems in the Extreme Test, slipped to last place.

In Junior 2, Matej Skuta took back first place by a razor-thin margin, just three seconds, ahead of Frenchman Diego Haution (Team Atomic) and Matyas Chlum.

In the Youth class, Riccardo Pasquato won a very close battle on both days bettering Gabin Allemand by just two seconds on day one with Juho Ahokas completing the podium which was repeated on day two.

The tough route and the demanding special tests put the ladies of the European Enduro to the test. Zuzana Unger stopped the clock first on day one with Viivi-Maria Makine second and Mauricette Brisebard third. Meanwhile reigning German champion Tanja Schlosser is out of the running after breaking her humerus bone in a crash.

Day two in the Women’s class saw Sara Traini achieved her first European victory, ahead of Mauricette Brisebard and Viivi-Maria Mäkinen.

In the Seniors the Italian Maurizio Micheluz achieved his fifth consecutive victory on day one ahead of the experienced Finns Marko Tarkkala and Mika Karma. A sprocket problem for Micheluz on the special test cost the points leader a stack of time, handing victory to Tarkkala followed by Juha Puotsaari and Mika Karma for an all-Finnish podium.

The 24MX Enduro European Championship returns on the first weekend of November in Wolterdorf, Germany, where the champions of the 2024 season will be crowned.
